何謂實習？

實習是一種專業的學習體驗，提供與學生與學習計劃相關的工作：是具有意義、並是實務的工作。對於應用英語系的學生來說，實習課程適用於在英語教學、商業管理和旅遊相關工作；實習提供了學生職業探索、生涯發展以及學習新技能的機會。

👉 期許實習生能：
▶️ 於未來得到於實習機構任職之機會
▶️ 獲取特定領域之經驗與技能
▶️ 獲得實際工作經驗，並對於公司提供有意義之協助，並非純粹打雜作業
▶️ 發展專業領域上的人脈
▶️ 接觸不同皆城或機構之管理人員
▶️ 有一位可提供指導、回饋、及可以接受學生意見並具專業精神之導師
▶️ 接受實習機構的培訓，瞭解實習機構的工作任務與目標，獲取有關實習機構的規範、法規及程序等資訊，並介紹實習生給未來工作上可諮詢問題的工作夥伴。

✅ 合格的實習工作內容 ✅

▶️ 實習工作內容不可超過25%的文書/行政/簡單的服務性質工作。
▶️ 完成至少320小時實務上的工作。
▶️ 需使用英語來完成工作。
▶️ 可為工作內容（需與學生學術課程目標相關）提供清楚工作及計劃描述。
▶️ 需引導學生適應於職場上（實習機構）之文化及適當之工作分配。
▶️ 協助學生發展並達成學習目標。
▶️ 定期向實習生提供回饋。
▶️ 協助發展可應用於其他職場環境之技能與知識。
▶️ 根據工作性質或時數提供合理工資，並提供勞工和健康保險。
▶️ 實習工作需由合法機構提供。
▶️ 提供實習生在專業環境（具監督、結構性）之學習體驗。
▶️ 實習生可取得在課堂上無法獲得之寶貴工作經驗。

✅ 何種實習工作可能具有合格性？ ✅

▶️ 於英語系國家海外就業。（沉浸式）
▶️ 於需要使用英語工作之海外地區就業（如：新加坡、泰國、越南……等）
▶️ 具完善實習計劃之飯店（具實際工作或有跨部門輪替訓練）
▶️ 語言學校：實習生可教授或演練英語作為外語教學實習。

❌ 何種實習工作不具合格性？ ❌

▶️ 僅雇主單方面獲取好處。
▶️ 工作是由一般員工可經常執行之工作。

❌ 不具合格性的實習工作範例 ❌

任何不需要英語能力之工作，如：
▶️ 餐飲服務（服務生）
▶️ 準備食材，如：茶館、廚師、快餐店、餐廳……等
▶️ 零售業，如：商店、百貨公司……等
▶️ 收銀員
▶️ 家庭或企業之清潔工作
▶️ 具遊樂性質之機構
▶️ 娛樂及休閒服務業
▶️ 托兒所
▶️ 家庭幫傭或個人看護
▶️ 汽車或船舶服務員
▶️ 化妝師或美容師
▶️ 家族企業（含近親）
▶️ 體力勞動，如：營建、送貨、農業
▶️ 於旅館之單一部門工作
▶️ 簡單之文書工作
▶️ 無使用到英文之客戶服務
▶️ 健身教練
▶️ 非英語教學之補習班
▶️ 短期營隊，實習生並未於其320小時之時數中以英文進行教學。

What is an Internship?

An internship is a professional learning experience that offers meaningful, practical work related to a student's program of study. For students of the Applied English department, this equates primarily to work in areas of English teaching, business management, and tourism. An internship gives a student the opportunity for career exploration and development, and to learn new skills.

👉 Student Interns Expect:
▶️ To possibly obtain future employment with the company that they intern at.
▶️ To develop professional contacts.
▶️ To gain real work experience and provide meaningful assistance to the company. They don't want to be gophers!
▶️ To develop professional contacts.
▶️ To gain exposure to different levels of management.
▶️ To have a mentor who provides guidance, feedback, receptiveness, and models professionalism.
▶️ To receive an orientation to the company for which they are interning. This introduces the students to the company's missions and goals and provides them with information about company rules, regulations, and procedures. It also introduces the intern to fellow employees who they can go to in the future with questions.

✅ A Qualified Internship ✅

▶️ Consists of a part-time or full-time work schedule that includes no more than 25% clerical, administrative duties, or simple service tasks.
▶️ Fulfils at least 320 hours of on-site work.
▶️ Requires the use of English language to fulfill job duties.
▶️ Provides a clear job or project description for the work experience (related to the goals of the student's academic coursework.)
▶️ Orients the student to the organization's culture, and proposed work assignment(s).
▶️ Helps the student develop and achieve learning goals.
▶️ Offers regular feedback to the student intern.
▶️ Helps develop skills and knowledge that are transferable to other work settings.
▶️ Offers salary based on the hours worked and provides required labor and health insurance.
▶️ Is provided by a legal business entity.
▶️ Provides interns with supervised, structured learning experiences in a professional setting.
▶️ Allow interns to gain valuable work experience not accessible from the classroom.

✅ What Type of Work Might Qualify? ✅

▶️ Overseas employment in English-speaking countries. (Immersion)
▶️ Overseas employment where English language is a work requirement. (i.e. Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam...etc)
▶️ Hotels where the employer has a dedicated internship program (jor or department rotation)
▶️ Language schools (where interns teach or perform English as a foreign language teaching practicum)

❌ What Type of Jobs Do Not Qualify as an Internship? ❌

▶️ Jobs that simply advance the operations of the employer.
▶️ Jobs that a regular employee would routinely perform.

❌ Examples of Jobs That Would Not Qualify ❌

Any job that does not require English language proficiency to perform, such as:
▶️ Foodservice (e.g. waiter and waitress...etc).
▶️ Food preparation (e.g. tea shop, cook, fast food outlet, restaurant...etc).
▶️ Retail sales (e.g. shops, department stores, and other retail outlets).
▶️ Cashier.
▶️ Home or business cleaning job.
▶️ Amusement and Recreation Attendant.
▶️ Recreational Protective Services.
▶️ Childcare.
▶️ Home Health and Personal Care Aides.
▶️ Automotive and Watercraft Service Attendants.
▶️ Cometician or Beautician.
▶️ Family-run business (including close relatives).
▶️ Manual labor (e.g. construction, delivery, farming...etc).
▶️ Hotels (single department, i.e. housekeeping, restaurant...etc).
▶️ Simple clerical jobs (e.g. Data entry).
▶️ Customer service (e.g. No chance to use English).
▶️ Fitness instructor.
▶️ Cram schools (non-English teaching duties).
▶️ Short-term camps where interns do not perform the majority of their 320 hours teaching English.
